Walking football was created in England in the early 2010s, conceived as a way to bring older adults back to the sport they love - on their own terms. What began as a grassroots idea quickly grew into a national movement, now enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of players across the UK and beyond.
At Hebden Bridge Walking Football Club, we believe football is for everyone. Whether you haven't kicked a ball in decades or you've never played before, our sessions are welcoming, structured, and most importantly - brilliant fun.
We run mixed, men's only and women's only sessions across three local venues, with competitive league football for those who want to take it further. All levels welcome. No experience required.
Our competitive teams enter leagues where the typical age bracket is 40+, but our training and social sessions are open to any adult aged 18 and above - no upper age limit. If you can walk and want to play, you're in.

Simple in principle. Brilliant in practice. The rules keep the game safe and accessible for everyone.
Players must walk at all times - on and off the ball, including jogging. At least one foot must remain in contact with the ground.
The ball must not be raised above head height. Any ball that does results in an indirect free kick to the opposition.
Tackling must be done without physical contact. Pushing, barging and shoulder challenges are not permitted.
All free kicks are indirect - the ball must touch another player before a goal can be scored.
Games are typically 6-a-side on a small pitch with small goals. Played indoors or outdoors.
Rolling substitutions mean everyone gets game time - ideal for all fitness levels.
"Football is for everyone - at any age, any pace."
Walking football was designed to bring people back to the game they love, safely and sustainably. The rules exist not to restrict, but to protect - ensuring everyone can enjoy the game equally, regardless of age or fitness level.
